Born on August 20, 1948, in Elsa, Texas, to Enrique Fuentes and Justa Reyes, Enrique lived a full life rooted in faith, love, and service. A proud son of the Rio Grande Valley, he remained loyal throughout his life to his hometown of Edcouch, where he was a devoted Yellowjacket fan. He also passionately supported his beloved Dallas Cowboys, cheering them on every season.
Enrique was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served his country with honor and deep patriotism. His commitment to service extended far beyond his military years, as he remained a steadfast pillar of strength and integrity within his family and community.
His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He especially cherished the bond he shared with his great-grandson Dillon, fondly known to Enrique as “my guy Dillon.” Whether he was participating in local 5Ks or simply enjoying quiet moments with family, Enrique’s presence was a source of unwavering love and joy.
Enrique was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rafaela Fuentes, and numerous cherished sisters. Their memories remain etched in the hearts of those who survive them.
He is lovingly survived by his son, Hector (Ede) Fuentes; his daughters, Eva (Frank) Mendoza, Elisa (Frank) Fuentes, Esperanza (Ramiro) Aldape, and Elia (Heriberto) Luna. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren: Frankie (April), Mark, Miranda, Kassie, Marli, Sammy including his great-grandson Dillon Fuentes, as well as many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to honor Enrique’s life on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Highland in Weslaco, where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St Theresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Edcouch. Though Enrique may no longer walk beside us, his love will remain with us always — in every laugh, every cheer, and every quiet moment of remembrance. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
