

Ernestina H. Garza, 96, of Weslaco, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, just days before her 97th birthday. She was born on July 18, 1929, and lived a life devoted to her faith, her family, and her community. Ernestina’s warmth, strength, and unwavering love for those around her touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonardo Garza Sr.; her parents, Alejandra Cisneros Herrera and Pedro Herrera; her granddaughter, Cynthia Garza; her brother, Jesus Herrera; and her sisters, Adela Cantu, Elva Cazares, Francisca Ybarra, and Isolda Goosen.
Ernestina is survived by her loving children: Consuelo Garza, Raul Garza (Celia), Gloria Leal (Daniel), Jaime Garza, Leonardo Garza Jr. (Eva), Ernesto Garza (Elva), and Sylvia Palomo (Roel).
She is also survived by her siblings: Johnny Herrera (Bertha), Rosalinda Martin (Ed), and Ramiro Herrera (Bertha).
Ernestina leaves behind a remarkable legacy of 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Known for her kindness, resilience, and generous spirit, Ernestina was the heart of her family. She cherished family gatherings, celebrated every milestone with enthusiasm, and offered wisdom and encouragement to generations of loved ones. Her home was a place of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the enduring example of love and devotion she leaves behind. Ernestina’s legacy will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
May she rest in eternal peace. She will forever remain in the hearts of all who loved her.
