Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Maria De Leon, his children Frank De Leon Jr., Clemente De Leon, Kris De Leon, Leeza De Leon, Adela Mares De Hoyos (David), and Javier Mares. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mila, Alena, lee, Lucas and numerous others and his sister Aurora Torres (Agustin) and others along with numerous nieces and nephews and cousins that loved him dearly.
Frank served in the US Army during the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was a Vietnam War Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient; combat wounded. He also served in the Texas National Guard for over 22 years and the Army Reserves. He volunteered his time and resources to help fellow Veteran access their benefits. He was a member of America's Last Patrol. "Frank," like his friends and family called him worked for the City of Weslaco for many years. In his younger years he loved to garden, bar b cue, and paint.
Frank has moved on to Heaven to rest and has found peace. His tired, frail body and mind fought fiercely and daily for many years so that he could be by his family's side. He was a walking miracle every day he opened his eyes. His doctors and nurses fought alongside him until the very end and we are so grateful for that. He fought bravely with his soldier brothers in Vietnam and suffered with them the pain that only war witnesses know. He carried the images and pain of losing friends, literally in front of his eyes, and still found the strength in him to volunteer to support many Veterans and their families throughout the years here in the Rio Grande Valley. He was in the National Guard too and proudly wore the uniform until he could. He showcased his memorabilia thereafter not allowing anyone to forget, for a second, the sacrifices a soldier and their families make all while still representing the pride and honor to have belonged to that brotherhood that wearing the uniform gives a soldier. He was a soldier, husband and father until the last breath he took. He was immensely proud of his children. He shared his war experiences with those he trusted. He proudly smiled from a distance as the family celebrated and met each milestone. He shyly smiled when he was the center of attention. He enjoyed the love of parenthood and being a grandfather. He watched in silence at family gatherings and allowed smiles to show on his face when entertained with the many adventures of family life. We all laughed and listened when he cracked a joke. He loved his wife fiercely. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts and continue to be present even when sadness strikes. He was a United States Army soldier. He was and is a soldier of God. May he forever rest in peace.
