My brother, Jerry, was the glue that held our family together along, of course, with our mom. He was her first born and as a young mother she doted on him, and as he grew up, she continued to always help him. My mom found out he had cerebral palsy when he was three years old.
As a youngster, he was very rambunctious; one time, when our parents lived in Houston, Jerry climbed out from his bedroom window and my entire family including my grandparents and uncle found him in a ditch reading a comic book. He loved to read comic books since he was a child.
My father and Jerry had a special connection too. He and Jerry always joked with each other. My father always wanted Jerry to do whatever he could with no fear. You see, he felt my mother was too afraid for him to venture out because of his disability but, she eventually relented and allowed him to be as independent as Jerry could under the circumstances.
When he began to study the Bible with Jehovah Witnesses and learned the truth and eventually was baptized, he looked forward to living in paradise and learning more about Jehovah God and his son, Jesus Christ. Jerry loved to read his Bible. His favorite scripture was Isaiah 35:5-6 : At that time the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. At that time the lame will leap like the deer, and the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, and the streams in the desert plain.
I remember when Jerry bought his first Amigo scooter and he was unstoppable. He would go as far as Weslaco City Park and even to Walmart without us finding out until much later. Jerry was very loved by family and friends. We can't wait to see you leap and shout for Joy!
Jerry is survived by his mother Armida M. Carreon; his brother Leonardo Carreon, his sister Belicia "Beti" Carreon, his sister Elsa Carreon (Roberto) and his sister Irene Rodriguez; his niece Luzevelia Carreon, his nephew Gabriel Carreon, his aunt Guadalupe M.
