-John 16:22
To others, our dad was a son, a brother, an uncle and a friend, but he was so much more. We often teased him that the world didn’t revolve around him, but the truth is he was our world and we definitely revolved around him. On Wednesday, March 24th, Gili was called to be with the Lord. Although we will greatly miss him, we are filled with gratitude that we were able to spend so many years and moments together.
Juan Gilberto “Gili” Ramirez Jr. was born on September 20, 1966 to Gil & Manuela Ramirez in Mercedes, TX. He met the most amazing woman, Mary Barco in high school. They were married on May 12, 1986 and were married for 34 years. Our dad was a devoted husband and the best Dad and Papa ever, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for us or my mom. Not only was he an amazing dad he was our best Friend. His faith was untouchable and never went anywhere without his rosary. When problems arose, he would say, “Dios con nosotros, quien contra nosotros!” He loved to make people laugh, even though they were probably just laughing at his laugh. He was the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan even when they disappointed him at times. He loved guns and hunting even though he always found an excuse to not shoot.
Our dad was amazing, he was always there for us when we needed him. He gave us everything we needed and wanted. We all had a unique relationship with him that made us feel like we were the favorite one. Hugs were always in abundance; his hugs were all we needed when it felt like our world was crashing down around us. He was proud of all of our accomplishments and never failed to tell us. He loved us no matter what and always referred to us as his precious cargo.
Gili is survived by his wife, Mary, his children Gilbert, Lisa Marie, Daniella Marie (Roman), Sandie Marie (Joey) and Rafael. His grandchildren, Hailey, Isabella’ Jo, Lauren, Juan Gilberto IV, Roman Jr. and Sadie Marie. He is preceded in death by his father, Gil Sr., his grandparents, Rafael and Santos Ramirez and his sister Leticia Margot Ramirez.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone for all your prayers, kind words, phone calls, and messages. It is by the grace of God and the love you have shown that will carry us through this difficult time.
