Hector Rodriguez was born in 1938 in China, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. He was the oldest of 12 children of Felipe Rodriguez and Olivia Gonzalez also from China, Nuevo Leon. As a young man, me and his family moved the outskirts of Reynosa and lived in Rancho Santa Rosa. It was in Reynosa where he met the love of his life, Leonor Garza Benavidez, and in 1967 they got married and their journey started.
In 1968, the couple gave birth to their first-born son, Juan Rodriguez and in 1970, their only daughter, Alma Rodriguez (Guzman) was born. In 1973, the couple gave birth to another son, Hector Rodriguez Jr born in Raymondville, Texas. In a pursuit of a better life, couple began the process of obtaining permanent residence to the United States. In 1976, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where Hector worked in the cotton gins. In 1978, the family decided to move down to the valley and made Weslaco, Texas their home. In 1980, the couple gave birth to their youngest son, Francisco Rodriguez.
Since Hector was raised in the farm, his loved for animals became his passion. In his little two-acre property he raised cows, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens and one or two pigs along the way.
That was his passion until he could not do it anymore.
Hector was a humble person that instill in his children the importance of an education, honesty, hard working and integrity. Hector enjoyed listening to norteño music from groups like Los Alegres de Teran, Carlos y Jose, Los Cadetes de Linares and more recently, Los Viejones de Linares.
Hector only had a 6th grade education but was very wise managing his hard-earned money. He had many sayings but would often tell his children "cualquier sonso puede ganar dinero, pero no cualquiera lo sabe cuidar" which means that anybody is capable of earning money but not many could manage it.
Hector loved his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. At the time of his death, he had seven grandkids and four great-grandchildren.
