Isaac Mateo Mejía passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2026. Isaac was born in Edinburg, Texas on October 12, 1953, and lived in the Valley for the first part of his life. He then lived a good part of his adult life in Denton, Texas, where he made many great friends, and after establishing himself as a trained cook, he then returned to live the latter part of his life in Donna where he lived with his pets and many hobbies. Isaac was an artist and a musician as well as a great cook. He always had an artistic talent which he used in all parts of his life. He worked most of his life as a cook of some acclaim and treated his family and friends to many great meals of all kinds. He decorated his home artistically with art, music, and with his many musical instruments. Isaac was always patient and calm through the many adventures life threw his way. He will certainly be sorely missed by his brothers, his extended family, and his many good friends.
Isaac is survived by his brothers, Jaime Armin Mejía from San Marcos, Texas, and David Gerardo Mejía from Denton, Texas. He was preceded by his parents José Armin Mejía and Guadalupe Cortez Mejía, from Donna. Isaac had many great cousins throughout the Valley, including his primo hermano Rudy Gorena. His many true friends included Arturo Martinez, Chano Martinez, Rudy Cardenas, and Saul Moreno, all from Donna. In Denton, his friends included Dee and Marlene Allen among many other true friends who always made sure to help him in every possible way throughout his life. As a friend of theirs, Isaac also saw his friendship with them very seriously and attended to their every need. Towards the last years of his life, Isaac was also taken care of quite well by his excellent healthcare providers Fabiola Garza, Saul Moreno, and Nora Alvarez.
