Born on November 24, 1948, John grew up in Bayport, Minnesota, and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1966. From 1968 to 1972, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. A man of integrity, quick wit, and dry, sarcastic humor, John had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease.
John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who lived life with purpose and heart. Whether cheering on his children at their games, tackling a crossword puzzle with his morning coffee, or working on his latest jigsaw, John embraced the simple joys of life. He also had a fondness for the game "Gummy Drop," which he played with the same persistence and humor that defined much of his life.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan; sons Joshua and Jerad (with wife Lindsay); bonus daughter Carla; and his beloved grandchildren: Stella Rose, Isabella Rose (and husband Ashton Waydon), Dominic, Zachary, and Jordan.
John spent the last four years enjoying the sunshine in Weslaco, Texas — his "forever home." He often joked about the heat, saying, "You don’t have to shovel heat!" — a perfect reflection of his practical wisdom and humor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fort Snelling #4 Assembly Area. A reception will follow at 3:30 PM at the American Legion in Hastings, MN. All who knew and loved John are welcome to join us in honoring his remarkable life.
Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many prayer warriors who carried us through this time — your love and support continue to lift us up.
