

He has been making custom boots for over 60 years. As a young boy at fourteen, he lost his father and later started working as a Shoe Maker. He moved to Mercedes in 1994 and established his business, “Acosta Shoe Shop Repair.” In 1999, he relocated to Harlingen, TX and married his wife who brought four children along and his new born son. His business became an enormous success. With every boot, he became pleased and happy. He treated it as his hobby and have said, “I’ll do this until God doesn’t allow me anymore. Just until I can’t do it anymore.”
He was cherished by customers and friends. He celebrated Mexico City festivals with family. He was passionate about sports cars, motorbikes, soccer, and western lifestyle.
He survived by his loving family: Wife: Silvia Acosta. His children: Jessie, Priscilla, Silvia Patricia, Gilberto, Jose Manuel, Lori, Juanita, Angelica, Rosemary, Javier, and Maribel. His grandchildren: Andrew, Isabella, Jesus, Liberty, Mallori, Mariana, Alejandro, Jose Manuel Jr., Ashely, Jesus E., Brian, and Abbley.
He is preceded in death by his parents Valetin Acosta and Maria De Guadalupe Navarro and his two sons, Jose Jr., and Carlos Acosta.
Visitation Services for Jose will be held Friday, January 22, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Highland Funeral Home located at 6705 N FM 88 in Weslaco, Texas. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, Texas.
