Jovita L. Lopez of Weslaco, Texas passed from this life into eternal life on Monday, June 20, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born in McAllen, Texas on February 15, 1927 to Norberto and Filomena Leal of Las Milpas.
While she will be missed by many, we are thankful that she is again in the arms of her beloved husband, Jose G. Lopez who passed away 27 years before.
Jovita was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. Her Catholic faith was an essential part of her life. As a parish member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco , she spent a great deal of time volunteering to do various ministries such as teaching CCE to second graders, singing in the Spanish choir, participating in group prayer meetings, and cleaning and preparing the altar for Holy Mass.
Our beloved mother was the rock of the family, selflessly giving herself to take care of everyone. She spent her lifetime unconditionally loving and caring for others. She was a wonderful wife who assisted her husband in his business, Lopez Auto Air and Trim Shop, as the office manager and bookkeeper. She was a loving mother who was active with her children’s education as a PTA member and band booster parent. As an adoring grandmother, she was available for comfort, guidance and her loving gestures. Her passion was being in the company of her family whether it be for holidays or gatherings sharing stories and recipes such as famous Bunelos and one of a kind lemon iced tea. Her love has grown roots and created memories to last a lifetime.
One of her passions was sewing and she was an extremely talented Seamstress. She often dedicated extra time to making clothes for her children and grandchildren, as well as alterations to garments for people in her hometown. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and tending to her flowers.
She is survived by her five children, Joe Lopez Jr. (Alicia), Luis Lopez (Gloria), Lydia Lopez (Charlie), Becky Lopez and Jovie Ahumada (Rigoberto). Her three siblings: Norbeto Leal Jr., Anita Flores, and Eva Garcia. She had 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents Norberto and Filomena Leal, her husband Jose G. Lopez, her daughter Terry Trevino, and siblings: Benita L Garza, Elva L. Gonzalez, Ramon, Ramiro, Ruben, Roberto “Bobby” and Raul Leal.
A rosary service will be prayed for her at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23rd at Funeraria Del Angel Highland. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 24th, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. following the burial service at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, Texas.
For all of us, she gave her best. Now it’s time for her to rest.
