

WESLACO – Juan L. Sanchez, 90, passed away, August 1, 2016, at Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, TX. Born in Weslaco, TX, where he attended public schools.
Juan enlisted in the United States Army on June 13, 1951 and was stationed overseas in Korea, where he fought in combat. He was awarded the Korean Svc medal with two Bronze Svc Stars, a UN Svc medal, and a combat inf. Badge.
After Juan was honorably discharged, he returned to Texas, where he met and married his late wife Maria. They moved to Sacramento, CA and lived there many years. After Maria’s passing, he returned to Weslaco, where he resided until December 2015. He then went to live at Alfredo Gonzalez Veterans Home where he spent his final days.
Juan is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Cristina Sanchez; his parents, Hilario and Cresencia Sanchez; three brothers, Miguel (Josefina) Sanchez, Domingo (Angelita) Sanchez and Cecil Sanchez.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mabel Sanchez; and four generations of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016, with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Highland Funeral Home in Weslaco. A graveside ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Military Honors will be conducted.
