Juanita V. Mendez

She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, warmth, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Juanita’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and perseverance, touching the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence brought comfort, her words offered wisdom, and her actions reflected a deep and enduring love for her family and community.

A lifelong learner and passionate educator, Juanita earned an extraordinary 19 degrees and dedicated her career to uplifting others through education. She was a licensed dyslexia therapist who devoted herself to working in special education, helping countless students overcome challenges and discover their potential. In addition to her work in the classroom, Juanita was also an accomplished author who wrote multiple books, sharing her knowledge, insight, and inspiration with a wider audience.

For more than 44 years, Juanita dedicated herself to the field of education, serving with distinction in Weslaco ISD, Elsa ISD, Donna ISD, and Mercedes ISD. In addition to her work within the public school systems, she spent many years as a private tutor with the 1-2-1 Learning Center, where she provided individualized instruction, guidance, and encouragement to students and their families. Her career reflected an unwavering commitment to education, personal growth, and the meaningful impact she made in the lives of those she served. On her free time she enjoyed crafting. She would make shirts, pottery and paint ceramics.

Juanita was married to Jorge Mendez for 44 years. Together, they raised two children, George Gabriel Mendez and Albert Ray Mendez. She is also survived by her siblings Roberto Valdez Jr. (Dolores), Ricardo Valdez, Efrain Valdez, Francisco Valdez (Sara), Guadalupe Valdez, Mario Valdez (Flor), Celia Valdez, Antonio "Tony" Valdez, Maria De La Luz Valdez (Lorenzo Ybarra), Rebecca "Becky" Valdez, and Rogelio "Roy" Valdez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
