Laurie Ann Cortez, 57, left to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born on September 1, 1968, to Manuel and Hermelinda Castillo in Weslaco, Texas.
Laurie was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother whose compassion and kindness touched everyone who knew her. She approached life with quiet strength, resilience, and a selfless heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Hardworking and devoted, Laurie found her greatest joy in her family.
A devoted mother above everything else, she approached every day with quiet strength and worked tirelessly to provide, protect, and nurture her children and grandchildren. Her love extended warmly to her cats and grand-fur babies, who brought her endless joy and love.
Her selflessness and work ethic were woven into everything she did. Those who knew her will remember her resilience. They will remember her quiet sacrifices, gentle humor, and unwavering love.
Though her absence leaves an ache no words can fill, her legacy lives on in the lessons she taught, the love she gave, and the strength she modeled. We will miss her voice, her laughter, and the light she brought to every room. But the echoes of her presence remain — in our stories, our hearts, and the quiet moments we hold close until we meet again.
She is survived by her children: Kasandra Ortiz, Gabriel Cortez, Jacob Cortez, and Kaitlyn Cortez; her cherished grandchildren: Alivia Ortiz, Ethan Ortiz, Kashtyn Gonzalez, and Allison Cortez; her loving parents: Hermelinda and Manuel Castillo; her sister Debbie Fox; and her nephews Kristopher Fox and Cody Fox. She is also survived by her children’s father, Oscar Cortez.
Laurie is now reunited in Heaven with her sister, Kristy Castillo, and her grandparents, Trinidad and Ofelia Garcia, and Enrique and Julia Castillo, who preceded her in death.
Laurie will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion, strength, and selflessness will continue to live on through those who were blessed to know her.
