With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Liesel Martinez Sanchez, who left us far too soon on January 5, 2025, at the age of 37. Liesel was a beacon of light in the lives of everyone she met, known for her vibrant energy, kind heart, and unwavering love for her family and friends.
Born on June 18, 1987, in Donna, Texas, Liesel was the youngest of two daughters to Maria Sanchez (Garcia). A lifelong resident of Donna, she graduated from Donna High School and dedicated over a decade of service to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR), where her compassion and work ethic left a lasting impact on colleagues forming life long friendships.
Liesel was a dynamic and spirited individual—energetic, loving, and affectionate. She was known for her colorful personality, being vocal and empathetic, and was often described as a “passionate firework.” Her love for music was visible in her talent for singing; she was extraordinarily musically gifted. Liesel was also a movie enthusiast who enjoyed exploring new places and sharing this joy with friends and family. An animal lover and a considerate, giving soul, she found joy in giving thoughtful gifts to those closest to her.
Liesel is survived by her loving spouse, Joel Saenz; her beloved children, Madalynn Hope Martinez, Thomas Radley Martinez, and Maximiliano Joel Saenz; her devoted mother, Maria Sanchez (Garcia); her sister, Karin Jones (Sanchez), and brother-in-law, Byron Michael Jones. She also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews: Timothy Abie Monroy, Amara Bea Monroy, Isaac Raúl Jones, Arianna Elizabeth Jones, and Savannah Rose Jones; As well as aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.
Liesel was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Raul and Timotea Garcia, and her paternal grandmother, Mariana Dominguez.
Liesel will be remembered for her compassionate heart, fiery spirit, and the energy she brought to every room she entered. Her legacy will live on through her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
