Maria Elena Adame Perez was born to Teresa and Santiago Adame on June 25th, 1957. The second oldest of nine children, Maria graduated from Weslaco High School and Pan American University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in social work. After a brief stint in public education, Maria spent over 25 years at the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, dedicated to the welfare of children and the growth of families across the Rio Grande Valley. An avid reader, a master at sudoku and crossword puzzles, an enthusiast of television series and film, and a conversationalist who never forgot even the smallest, most seemingly insignificant detail of a person’s life, Maria was a light in a world too often shrouded by darkness.
She was a fierce woman who set her mind to accomplishing her goals, regardless of the obstacles. She taught her children kindness, and she wanted nothing more than for her son and daughter to live a life filled with joy, laughter, and love. Maria understood the difficulties that plagued this world, but she fought for what was right and she never wavered in the face of indifference, cruelty, or injustice.
She is survived by her siblings, Santiago Adame, Gloria Fuentes, Rosa Ramos, Linda Navarro, Irene Warwas, Inez Garcia, Jaime Adame, and Javier Adame, and her two children, Esteban Rodriguez and Iris Perez. May you remember her laughter and may the fire that burned inside her glow even brighter in your heart.
Visitation for Maria will be held Monday, March 31, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Highland, 6705 N. FM 88, Weslaco, TX 78599. A chapel service will occur Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 10:00 AM, followed by the interment at 11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Park, Weslaco, TX 78599.
