María was a woman whose life was filled with love, joy, and vibrant spirit. She found happiness in the simple and beautiful moments of life—especially in her deep love for gardening. Her garden was her sanctuary, where she lovingly planted gardenias and jasmine, filling her home with the sweet fragrances she cherished. She enjoyed the excitement of playing bingo, where her laughter and lively personality brought joy to many. María also loved dancing, singing, and listening to music—moments that filled her days with rhythm, celebration, and connection.
Her greatest devotion in life was to her family. She is lovingly survived by her children: Blanca Cisneros & Joe Cisneros, Oscar Garza †, Sonia Ocañas & Jose Ocañas, Heriberto Garza & Rosalinda Garza, Olivia Reyna & Elio Flores, Dalia Higgins & Tony Higgins, Juan Manuel Garza, Roy John Garza & Martha Garza, and Jaime Garza. She is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love, strength, and family unity. She now reunites in eternal peace with those who preceded her in death, including her beloved husband, Ramon Cantu Garza; her father, Heriberto Soto; her mother, Francisca Sauceda Soto; her son, Oscar Garza; her grandson, Roy Garza, Jr.; and numerous brothers and sisters who welcomed her home.
Lovingly remembered by many around her neighborhood as the “Avon Lady,” María embraced her personal style with pride. She loved dressing up, wearing makeup, and expressing herself with grace and confidence. One of the most meaningful milestones of her life came at the age of 88, when she gave herself to the Lord. Her faith brought her comfort, peace, and renewed purpose in her later years.
