Maria C. Gonzalez, 85, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Maria lived a life full of love, generosity, and hard work.
Born in General Bravo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Maria made her home in Weslaco, Texas, where she touched the lives of all who knew her. Maria was a woman of great spirit, known for her extraordinary warmth, hospitality, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She was proud to be the top salesperson for Kitchen Fair, a position she excelled in due to her natural charisma, determination, and unmatched work ethic. Maria’s career was a testament to her skills as an ultimate salesperson—she had a special gift for connecting with people and making them feel seen and valued. Her work was not just about selling products; it was about building relationships and leaving a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Maria’s love for life extended far beyond her work. She was an avid traveler who relished exploring the world, with Alaska holding a special place in her heart. When she wasn’t traveling, Maria could be found in the kitchen, where she enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with loved ones, always ensuring that no one ever left her home hungry. Her love for country music was a constant companion, and her giving heart led her to help those in need whenever possible.
Maria took great pride in raising her five children—Maria Criselda, Mallissa, Maria Angelina, Rosalva, and Jorge Eduardo. Her legacy is carried on by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her world. She was also known in her neighborhood as the “Godmother,” a title she embraced with grace and love, always offering a listening ear, guidance, and care to those around her. She had a special bond with her beloved alley cats, whom she often treated as her own.
She is survived by her children, Maria Criselda Gonzalez, Malissa Gonzalez, Maria Angelina Gonzalez, Rosalva Bumgardner, and Jorge Eduardo Gonzalez; her grandchildren, Dixie Elizondo, Dominic Gonzalez, Cheyenne Gomez, Jennifer Bumgardner, and Valarie Bumgardner; and her four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eduardo Gonzalez.
Maria’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and kindness. Her absence leaves a hole in the hearts of her family and all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the memories, stories, and acts of kindness she so generously shared.
