Paul J. Jones Sr.

October 23, 1949September 6, 2020

Paul Julius Jones, 70, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2020 in Weslaco, TX. Paul was born on October 23, 1949 in Weslaco, TX to Stanford White and Mattie Mae Jones.

Paul’s mother always prayed for one of her children to be born on a Sunday, and God answered her prayer with Paul. One of his favorite things to say about himself was “I’m easy like Sunday morning”. It seems fitting that he should leave this world and enter his eternal home on a Sunday. Paul loved God with all his heart and spent his life devoted to his family.

He was known for his witty sense of humor and zest for life. Throughout the years, he spent many weekends fishing with his children and teaching them invaluable lessons about life. Paul considered himself a simple man. He loved going on long walks with his boys, eating fresh fish, dressing in a sharp suit and hat, and spending quality time with his wife. When they first started dating, he told her “our love will grow as tall as a tree for the whole world to see”. It was their love for God and each other that built a strong foundation for their family to flourish. Paul loved people and he never met a stranger. He always greeted people with a big smile and good joke.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elida Jones, his ten children Voncile Diaz (David), Paul Jones Jr., James Jones, Natasha Caballero (Ricky), Justus Wesley Jones, Melisa J. Silguero (Cesar), Elijah Jones, Nathan Jones, Mark Jones (Micah), and Paul Jones (Crystal), his 35 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his siblings Stanford Jones II (Francis), John W. Jones (Rose), Walter David Jones (Connie), Jennifer Vargas, and Shirley Mejia.

In his final days, Paul was surrounded by family and loved ones. He will be remembered as a loving husband, attentive father, and the funniest grandpa around. Even though he is no longer with us and his absence hurts, our faith gives us hope that we will be reunited with him again in Heaven. His memory and the values he instilled in his family will be carried in the hearts of those he loved and continue to influence the next generation.

Serving as pallbearers are Paul A. Jones, Elijah Jones, James Jones, Wesley Jones, Nathan Jones, Paul Jones, Mark Jones and Eric Castillo.

Paul will always be remembered for his quick smile and jokes, loving his family, and never meeting a stranger. He and his whole family have been a part of my life and heart for many years. He will be missed by all that have ever met him. My son told me "What a great person. Surely missed but a great person to be looking down at us."
Hugs and prayers to the Jones family.

Dear Father and best friend,
When God created you, he gave me the world’s greatest gift. He gave me a father who loved me unconditionally and who led by actions rather than words. You taught me what it means to be a real man, and that is a man that loves God with all his heart, a man that loves and cherishes his wife, and a man who is hard-working. You taught me that though it won’t be easy, I can achieve anything I set my mind to. You taught me that the most important thing in life is family, and the greatest gift a father can give his children is TIME. Dear Father, there are no words to describe the man you have been in my life all these years. Until we meet again, my best friend, I am forever indebted to you.

Your Dear Son,
Happy Jones

The memories of Mr. Jones will always be within our hearts. I am most thankful that he shared Jesus with me, even though I did not comprehend salvation till a later time in life. Nonetheless, Paul planted the seed in my heart. His reward will be great! I can almost hear the Lord saying “well done, good and faithful servant” Matt 25:21. Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice greatly for Mr. Jones is in the presence of our Heavenly Father for eternity. It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later...
I will miss you, Jack.

Mr. Jones, I don’t think you knew what type of impact you had in my life, I will always have a piece of you in my heart. You were a human vessel willing to be used by God for whatever purpose He has in mind. And you won me over! Thank you is an understatement. I’m also curious as to my nickname? I have no clue if I should be offended or not hahahah you will be missed! Yours truly, STINKY

A remarkable memory I have of my Mr. Jones is a road trip we took to Yellowstone National Park and Colorado Springs. I saw mountains, buffalos, snow, and so much more. What an unforgettable experience! He loved the outdoors, so I can only imagine the freedom Mr. Jones must feel being at the feet of Jesus with his new and glorified body. He is probably singing away “Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty I am free at last.” It’s not goodbye, it’s see you later…

My condolences go out to the Jones Family. My son and I were saddened to hear of Mr. Jones's passing. He was a wonderful Godly man and mentor to my son Aaron. He held a special place in my son's life and will never be forgotten. My son Aaron, also sends his heartfelt condolences and could not be here as he is in the Marines and is stationed in North Carolina, but sends his love to sister Elida. May the Lord bless you and give you peace and strength during this time. This is the last photo we have of both Mr. & Mrs. Jones along with my son at his graduation dinner from bootcamp.
