Rex was a man of service, curiosity, humor, and deep devotion to the people he loved. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years of active duty and another four years in the Air Force Reserve. After completing his military service, Rex built a long career at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, Illinois, where he worked until his retirement.
He had a lively spirit and an interest in nearly everything around him. Rex was an enthusiastic circus fan whose collection of circus memorabilia reflected a lifelong sense of wonder. He enjoyed reading the Bible and biographies, keeping up with news talk shows, following wrestling and UFO stories, and staying active through daily walks and weightlifting. He especially enjoyed watching a big electrical storm roll in. His kind heart extended to animals as well, and he never hesitated to care for a stray dog or cat.
Those who knew Rex will remember his good stories, quick sense of humor, and his gift for making people laugh. More than any hobby or interest, he treasured the warmth of family life and the time spent with those closest to him.
Rex is survived by his beloved wife, Concepcion “Connie” Owens; his son, Rex A. Owens; and his grandchildren, Rex and Isaac.
He was preceded in death by his son, Chad William Owens, and his parents, Rex Owens and Clara Schattie.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria del Angel Highland, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596, on September 6, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with the Rosary at Funeraria del Angel Highland on September 6, 2026, at 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Progreso, TX, on September 7, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by Interment at Highland Memorial Park, 6705 North Fm 88, Weslaco, Texas 78596, on September 7, 2026, at 11:00 am.
