

Reynaldo De Leon, 76, went to his heavenly home September 11, 2017, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. He was born in January 24, 1941 in Mercedes, TX to Riley and Guadalupe De Leon. He was the youngest of 14 brothers and sisters. Rey, as he was known, worked for the City of Mercedes for 43 years as Foreman for Public Works retiring in 2005. In 1972, he married the love of his life Maria Cruz De Leon and together they have 4 children and 10 grandchildren. As a Public Servant working for the City of Mercedes, you would see him year after year working all the city annual events, including the Halloween Street Party and Christmas Parade. He served as a Little League umpire for 17 years with the Mercedes Little League, including being chosen to work the All-Star games at the end of each LL baseball season. Aside from Little League, he also officiated local softball tournaments in Mercedes, Weslaco, La Villa, Santa Maria and Progreso. He worked 35 years for the annual Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show, as a Security Officer, assisting with parking the FFA participant trailer homes and securing the main entrance. He was a long-standing member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Mercedes.
Rey is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Urence De Leon, Vicente De Leon, Leonso De Leon, Reynaldo De Leon (died at birth), Catarino De Leon, Roque De Leon, Riley De Leon, Jr. and Jose ‘Pepe’ De Leon. Sisters were Berta De Leon Zamora, Paulina De Leon, Evangelina De Leon Camarillo, Ernestina De Leon and daughter Eva Delgado. He is survived by his wife, Maria Cruz, daughter Graciela (Jacob) Davila, sons Reynaldo (Jill) De Leon, Jr., David De Leon, Rafael (Vanessa) De Leon, adopted daughter Maria G. Martinez, sister Janie De Leon Romero, sister-in-law’s Elvira De Leon, Petra De Leon, Santos De Leon, grandchildren (Princess) Alyssa Marie De Leon, Raeann De Leon, Christian Jacob Davila, Ivan Gabriel Davila, Ethan Ray De Leon, Peyton De Leon, Giselle Seles De Leon, Avery De Leon, James Dylan De Leon, Austin Bryan De Leon, Samuel Santoyo, Jeannette Santoyo, Rosario Santoyo, Frankie Delgado, four additional grandchildren Mark, Jose, Rey and Andrew and a number of great-grandchildren.
Family and friend’s visitation begin on Thursday, September 14, 2017 from 1:00PM until 9:00PM with Holy Rosary (Spanish) recited at 7:00PM at Funeraria del Angel-Highland Funeral Home in Weslaco, TX. Visitation continues Friday, September 15, 2017 from 1:00PM until 9:00PM with Holy Rosary recited at 7:00PM also at Funeraria del Angel-Highland Funeral Home. A funeral mass to celebrate Rey’s life will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church located at 322 S. Vermont Mercedes, TX. 78570. A funeral procession will follow the service leading to his final resting place at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco, TX.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be David De Leon, Rafael De Leon, Juan Barron, Adrian Gomez, Robert De Leon and Jesse Espinoza.
