Rosendo Castañeda Jr., age 51, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 6, 2026, at DHR Hospice in Edinburg, Texas. Born on January 1, 1975, in Weslaco, Texas, Rosendo was the beloved son of Rosendo and Herlinda Castañeda.
Rosendo was a proud graduate of Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District and continued his education by completing two years of college studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. During his high school years, he was an active member of the band, where he proudly played in the percussion section. His love for music, especially the drums, remained a cherished part of his life. He also enjoyed playing basketball under the guidance of Coach Capello and treasured the friendships and memories made on the court.
A man who truly enjoyed the outdoors, Rosendo had a passion for fishing and participated in numerous fishing tournaments throughout the years. Some of his happiest moments were spent on the water with family and friends, sharing laughter, stories, and unforgettable experiences. He was also an avid golfer who enjoyed participating in various golf tournaments and spending time on the course. A devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Rosendo proudly supported his team throughout his life and often traveled to attend games in person. Whether cheering from the stands or watching with family and friends, his enthusiasm for the Cowboys was unmistakable and brought him great joy.
Rosendo dedicated part of his career to serving as a security guard at La Villa Detention Center and later at Edcouch-Elsa High School. He was known for his friendly nature, warm smile, and ability to make others feel welcome. He valued family above all and looked forward to family gatherings where he could spend time with loved ones, share stories, and, of course, barbecue for everyone. His love for cooking outdoors was one of the many ways he expressed his care for those around him.
Throughout his life, Rosendo built many lasting friendships. He had a kind heart, a generous spirit, and a genuine love for people. Most importantly, Rosendo had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He loved reading and sharing the Word of God and found great comfort and joy in Christian music. He often reminded those around him that, at the end of the day, what mattered most was knowing that God was always with him. His unwavering faith served as an inspiration to many and remained his source of strength throughout his life.
Rosendo leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, friendship, and treasured memories. Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Rosendo and Herlinda Castañeda; his brother, Michael Lee Castañeda; and the cherished memory of his grandparents, Porfirio and Jovita V. Gonzalez, and Pedro and Abelina Castañeda.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the love he shared and the faith he lived by will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
