Sammy was known for always having a smile on his face and for carrying himself with independence, determination, and compassion. He was a natural leader who consistently put others before himself. His character and dedication opened many doors for his future, with several colleges already reaching out to him because of his talents and potential.
A proud student-athlete of Progreso High School, Sammy loved playing football and basketball. He found joy in being active, competing alongside his teammates, and encouraging those around him. Outside of sports, Sammy loved fishing, golfing, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Before his passing, Sammy shared that he wanted to be like Jesus’ disciples and go fishing — a reflection of his faith and gentle heart.
Sammy also enjoyed video games, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and was a huge fan of Spiderman. He especially loved food and never passed up pizza or spaghetti. No matter where he was, Sammy’s laughter, energy, and caring personality brought comfort and happiness to those around him.
He leaves behind to cherish his precious memory his loving parents, Reymundo Marquez and Rosa Elia Hernandez (Robert Garcia); his siblings, Pedro Rios Jr., Angela Hernandez, John David Hernandez, Keila Rios, CJ Alvarado, and Denisse Trejo; his sister-in-law, Devony Olivas; his grandmother, Concepcion Rios; his aunt, Angelica Cantu; and his best friend and support, Deandra Diaz, along with many extended family members, friends, classmates, teammates, and all whose lives were blessed by knowing him.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Sammy’s love, faith, and light will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
