Santiago "Jimmy" Krummel left this world to be with the Lord on January 19, 2021. He was born in Weslaco, Texas, to Maria and Gumecindo Krummel on March 16, 1944. He was the second eldest of 5 children. Santiago was a devoted American Soldier, brother, and uncle. At a young age, Santiago displayed admirable qualities that he would carry out his entire life. As a young man, "Jimmy" worked in the fields to help support his family financially. As a teenager, he joined the United States Army, received his wings as a sky soldier, and served as a proud member of the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Santiago served three tours of Vietnam. After his first tour, he was compelled to serve two additional tours to look out for all the new soldiers. After serving his country in the Army, Santiago worked at Gibson Winery and supported his family and Army brothers.
Santiago loved and served the Lord, our God. He spent his life working hard and helping others with kindness, food, money, and most importantly, spreading the word of God. Santiago spent countless hours in prison and youth ministry and volunteering to gather food for those in need.
Santiago was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother Gumecindo, nephew Jacob and, recently, his brother Rene and nephew Duvin. He is survived by his sisters Gerarda Galvan (Progreso, TX), Oralia Cerda (Sanger, CA), many nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins, and his family of fellow veterans.
Although Santiago didn't have any biological children of his own, he treated many of his nieces and nephews as his children. He was always there to lend a helping hand. Our beloved Uncle "Jimmy" always supported his family's dreams and anticipated their needs. He was extremely generous with his sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces. He helped them with their finances, improving their homes, buying cars, computers for college, providing nephews and nieces with a place to live, and always with words of encouragement. He was a pillar of strength for his siblings and the entire family.
In his retirement years, Santiago continued to support others. He was a member of Texas Chapter 13 Sky Soldiers and the committee responsible for building Veteran Memorial in McAllen by the Convention Center. "Jimmy" dedicated his life to helping those less fortunate. When he traveled to Mexico, young children would ask for money; instead he gave them food. Santiago worked with his church ministry to collect and donate food in, and around, the Rio Grande Valley and northern Mexico.
Santiago enjoyed traveling to California to visit family and friends. He enjoyed spending time and supporting his fellow veterans. And, above all, he enjoyed spending time with the Lord in prayer and inviting all to pray with him. The Lord was his source of strength. And, he was a source of spiritual power for others.
