Zeferino “Fino” B. Saenz, 88, was called home to be with our Lord on September 2, 2026, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, Texas. He was born on January 9, 1938, in Mercedes, Texas, to Ismael Saenz and Genoveva Bruno.
Zeferino later made his way to Chicago, Illinois, where he began a beautiful chapter of his life. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Maria Delua Saenz, and together they built a life centered around love, family, hard work, and countless cherished memories. Their marriage spanned nearly 60 years before Maria’s passing. Their love and devotion to one another remained a lasting example to their family.
A hardworking and determined man, Zeferino built a successful career through his own dedication and perseverance. In 1975, he opened Aamatic Transmissions, a business he proudly owned and operated for 41 years. Through his work, he touched the lives of thousands of people, forming friendships and leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Yet, for all the lives he touched, there was nothing more important to Zeferino than his beloved wife, his three children, and his grandchildren.
Zeferino was a devoted father to Sylvia, Zeferino, and Sonia, always taking pride in their accomplishments and doing everything he could to provide for and support his family. His greatest joy, however, came from being a grandfather. His grandchildren held a very special place in his heart, and he was incredibly proud of each of them: Zeferino R. Saenz, Jacquelyn-Nikoli Menchaca Owens, Valentine Espericueta IV, Alyssa Saenz, Eloy Nathaniel Menchaca Jr., Ysabella Brianna Saenz, and Gabriel Hector Saenz. The memories they shared with their grandfather will forever remain a treasured part of their lives.
Zeferino loved his family deeply and cherished the bonds he shared with his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He had a generous heart and a way of making the people around him feel welcomed and remembered. His presence brought strength, wisdom, laughter, and love to those fortunate enough to know him.
He also had a love for travel and enjoyed discovering new places and making memories along the way. He continued to travel both before and after retirement, embracing the opportunity to experience life and spend meaningful time with those he loved.
Zeferino leaves behind a beautiful legacy—not only in the business he built and the people he helped throughout the years, but most importantly in the family he loved so dearly. His life was one of hard work, perseverance, devotion, and love. Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he gave will continue to live on through his children, grandchildren, and generations to come.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Sylvia Saenz; Zeferino D. (Yolanda) Saenz; and Sonia Saenz Menchaca; along with his beloved grandchildren, Zeferino R. Saenz, Jacquelyn-Nikoli Menchaca Owens, Valentine Espericueta IV, Alyssa Saenz, Eloy Nathaniel Menchaca Jr., Ysabella Brianna Saenz, and Gabriel Hector Saenz, as well as his many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Zeferino was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Delua Saenz, with whom he shared nearly 60 years of marriage; his parents, Ismael Saenz and Genoveva Ibarra, and his brothers, Israel B. Saenz and Manuel Ibarra.
Zeferino will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he touched, and his greatest legacy will always be the family he loved so completely.
Rest peacefully, Zeferino. Your work here is done. May you be reunited with your beloved Maria and welcomed into the loving arms of the Lord. Until we meet again, you will forever live on in our hearts.
