Alex Budny

Budny, Alex Of West Allis, WI. Passed away suddenly this week amidst several of his family. Alex was born to the late Casimir and Frances (Slomszewski) Budny, from Poland, on January 26, 1919. At 91, he led a very active life until his passing; even continuing one of his passions, photography, up until the end. He was a photographer for the Naval newspaper in the 2nd World War while he was stationed in Hawaii, and afterwards was a photo contributor to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. After discharge, he studied at the Layton School of Art, where he began a career as a commercial artist / photographer. Shortly after, he began at the Heil Company in Milwaukee as a welder for over 40 years when he retired in 1985. He was a fisherman all of his life and loved fishing with his wife, "Dilly", on many area lakes, the Bark River, as well as the annual family vacation in Mountain, WI to Gillette Lake. He enjoyed visiting with his "buddies" nearly every morning at the local McDonald's and had several friends he would socialize with occasionally in the evenings; thanks to friends who would be his "chauffeurs". He will be greatly missed for his humor about being "59 years old" still, and his verve for life. In later years, he enjoyed keeping up with the latest stock quotes, watching the Packers play and listening to his old country music on his hi-fi. Alex is survived by an only son, Thomas Budny of Sussex, WI; a granddaughter, Rachel (Mike) Bisom of Kenosha, WI; granddaughters, Kim (Joe) Young, Laurie (Todd) Gillard and Tammy (Rick) Mascari; and a nephew, Robert Fischer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 wonderful years, Matilda "Dilly" Budny (Fischer) in 2000; an older brother, Walter Budny, in 1996; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Budny, in 2005; an older half-sister, Sophie (Slomczewski) Oltz; and half-brother, Chester Slomczewski. A small service of family and a few close friends was held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at Borgwardt Funeral Home. A "Life Party" will be held at a future date to celebrate Alex's life.
