Demetria “Deming” de Guzman Quiroz Moralina
December 22, 1928 – April 1, 2026
Demetria de Guzman Quiroz Moralina, known affectionately to all as “Deming” and lovingly called “Nanay” by her family, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026, in West Covina, California. A woman of boundless joy and radiant energy, she was 97 years old.
Born on December 22, 1928, in Nueva Ecija, Philippines, Deming carried the warmth and spirit of her homeland throughout her long and beautiful life. A dedicated housewife and the heart of her home, she was a woman of deep strength who raised seven children alongside her beloved husband, Faustino Moralina. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.
A Social Butterfly with a Radiant Heart
Deming was a “social butterfly” in every sense of the word. Her presence was a gift; she had a unique ability to make everyone smile and was rarely seen without a look of pure happiness. She loved dressing up elegantly for special occasions and dancing whenever the music played. Her kitchen was often filled with the savory aroma of Pinakbet, her signature dish that she loved to cook for those she held dear.
Even into her final years, Nanay’s vitality was an inspiration. She remained active through gardening and daily exercise, embodying a can-do spirit that never faded. Her social life flourished at the Ramona Senior Center, where she was an active and beloved member. She woke up every day excited to see her friends, who returned her affection tenfold. A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Deming was also a devoted member of the Church of Christ (Iglesia ni Cristo). She found great strength in her community and never missed a service, living her life as a testament to her beliefs.
A Love Without Borders
Deming’s love extended far beyond her children and grandchildren. To her, family was never limited by blood; once you entered her life, you became one of her own. She warmly welcomed the spouses of her children and the partners of her grandchildren with open arms and a generous heart. She had a special gift for making everyone feel included, valued, and at home—ensuring that no one felt like an outsider at her table or in her heart.
To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Nanay was a source of both humor and wisdom. She was famous for her loving “rules”—always reminding the younger generation to stay focused on their studies and playfully warning, “No boyfriends! Finish school.” She was also a stickler for poise, frequently telling her grandkids to stand up straight, followed by her signature command: “Nokaren kay bat!” While the entire family has spent years trying to crack the code of what those words actually meant, Deming kept the secret to the end. Whether it was a piece of ancient wisdom or a private joke, she left it behind as a final, playful mystery for her family to smile about whenever they stand a little taller.
