Dorothy Mae Yates, 97, of Kansas City, MO, passed in Las Vegas, Nevada, of age-related complications, on September 23, 2026.
Born in Kansas City, MO, to Peter Griffin and Laura Whitaker. She was a working single mother, often working two jobs to support her young family.
She worked for many years as a private vocational nurse taking care of newborn children. She was a stay home mom for many years, and in her later years worked as a greeter at Walmart.
On September 29, 1967, she married Leslie J. Yates and together they raised 2 children: Melvin, and Gladys.
She was a happy and spirited soul, even though she suffered daily chronic back pain.
She was a firm but caring mother and grandparent, who loved to travel to Hawaii, and spent time playing cards and dominoes with family and friends for entertainment. She loved listening to Jazz, watching old western movies and comedies on television. She was selfless and generous with her time and had an unshakable spirit. She had an infectious laugh and always smiled. The Lord has called her home, she was a loyal and faithful servant.
A life well lived, a love that will never be forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Dorothy.
Your smile will be remembered.
Your laughter will be heard in our memories.
Your love will live on in us forever.
