Jose Dionisio Correa nació el 9 de Octubre, 1920 en la provincia de Las Villas, Cuba. Pepe, como muchos lo conocían, proviene de padres Canarios, Elíseo Correa y Mercedes Padilla, que emigraron a Cuba y se asentaron en el pueblo de Cabaiguan. Pepe era el mayor de nueve hermanos. Se casó con Carmela Soledad Correa el 14 de Febrero, 1948 y tuvieron tres hijas, Maria del Carmen, Alícia, y Anabel.
Siempre opuesto a la dictadura comunista en Cuba, fue preso en 1969, por ayudar a los alzados, las guerrillas anti-castristas en las montañas del Escambray, Cuba. Abandona Cuba, mediante los Vuelos de La Libertad y llega a Miami, Florida, en unión de Carmela, Maria y Anabel el 24 de Agosto 1971. Cuatro días después arrivan a El Monte, California donde rehicieron su vida en los Estados Unidos. En 1975 lograron el sueño americano y compraron su casa en South El Monte. En 1980, regresó en barco a Cuba para sacar a su hija Alícia y su familia por el éxodo del Mariel. En 1993 se hizo ciudadano Americano.
Pepe era un gran aficionado del baseball y de Los Angeles Dodgers. Fue miembro fundador de del Club Cubano de El Monte, Calif., y participó en los campeonatos de domino de los clubes cubanos, llegando s ser campeón junto a su compañero Israel González de dichos torneos.
Pepe murió el 10 de Julio, 2018. Lo sobreviven su esposa Carmela; hermana Perla; hijas Maria y Anabel; nietos Luis, Mayelin, Emilio José, Sarai, y Miguel Ángel; y bisnietos Gabriela, Javan, Luke, Isabel, Cruz, y Lourdes.
