Lonnie and Lomia are our family residing on the same block of my childhood home in Baldwin Park, CA. I am a daughter of Luis and Coco AYALA;  shared in the raising up  and was the babysitter of  Eric & Maurice,   and have benefited from the friendship of my sister Lomia Benson Woods. 
Lonnie, who has been described as possessing a 'Million dollar smile,' is a warm and kind person. My husband Ron and I no longer live in Los Angeles, but had many opportunities to come in contact with Lonnie over the years. Lonnie has helped me out when I have needed a ride because my car was in the shop and that is my most recent special memory of him. 
On behalf of our parents' Luis and Coco Ayala, your neighbors for many years, and my brother, sisters, as well as the entire family: 
We send our deep condolences  to Lomia, Eric, Maurice the remaining children, grandchildren, family and friends.  Our prayers, which began in May when Lomia told me about Lonnie's illness, are continuing for all. May God send you His Comfort and  Blessings at this time of profound change.

I had the pleasure of meeting Lonnie when he and Lomia decided to join their lives together in marriage. Lomia and Lonnie were my neighbors, not always spending lots of time together, but always waving to each other when we saw each other in our yards. Lonnie was a true sports fan, loved keeping his lawn green, and exercised often by riding his bike or walking around the city. My fondest memories of Lonnie will always be his pleasant greetings and great laugh! 
May God's strength shine on Lomia and the kids and may dear Lonnie rest in peace.

Lonnie was my wife Betty's supervisor in the Vendor Validation Unit and the Reception Area at both Covina and Glendora before moving on to the postion as COA before she retired, she remembers Lonnie as being kind, considerate and understanding.  Betty has said that Lonnie  was fun to be around and she liked working for him especially on Boss's Day. Lonnie  taught her that every vendor number represented a home with a child in the Foster Care Sytem and our purpose is to make sure the payments go out on time.  Betty was proud to be a union member and Lonnie said the Union  membership  is the way to express our selves about policy and changes in the department to improve the work place. Betty had a lot to say about that!

I met Lonnie a little differently I had heard about Lonnie shortly after becoming a shop stewart for SEIU Local 660.  I heard stories about Lonnie how he was independent and didn't always agree with the county or the union.  I first met Lonnie at a COPE meeting at local 660, he was sitting at one end of the table relaxed reading a news paper.  Him and I were the only two people in the room, we never spoke until the meeting was over then we  introduced ourselves on a more personal level.  Years went by and the only time we saw each other was at union meetings or demonstrations.  About Twelve years ago we began working in the same office first at the Barranca office in covina then at the Glendora office after we moved.  What Lonnie and I shared was a passion to make sure people were treated properly and with respect.  We became friends and shared a mutual respect for each other even after I became an administrator.  

Mr. Lonnie was really my first union rep. I know that's kind of an odd memory to have but he made me respect the union and him. He was a great man who truly gave a damn about folks and tried to make things better for everyone. He was also a nice person in general who you felt comfortable talking to and he was respected by everyone who knew him. I missed him when he retired.  Very saddened to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to his family on his loss.

Lonnie was my supervisor when I began working at DCFS in Glendora. Initially, I could not stand him as our personalities clashed. Anybody who knew Lonnie understood that he had no patience for any B.S, I found that out the hard way! We came to an understanding and in time I really gained a lot of respect for him. He took the time to show me the ropes and encouraged me to climb the ladder. I really appreciated his style, he didn't sugarcoat anything and you always knew where you stood with him. I'm definitely gonna miss all his stories. Thank you for all the knowledge you passed on Lonnie, you will be missed.

I extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to Lomia and her family.  May Lonnie’s soul rest in peace and may GOD comfort you during this time.  Lonnie was a loving father figure, who exhibited kindness, yet strength to his grandchildren.  Although Lonnie was not a quiet force, he was indeed a force that these children listened to and respected.  His guiding hand will be on their shoulders forever,  and may happy memories ease your pain.

To my aunt Lomia and Lonnie's loved one's, I pray for God to shower you all with peace, love and support during this special occasion.  I only had the pleasure of meeting uncle Lonnie when I was a child, which was too young to develop a lasting  relationship however...I do remember him having a sense of humor and smiling most of the time when I came to visit.  Now that i'm older, I have realized the importance of "Being Ready" to make this transition when God calls us to our eternal resting place therefore, I believe this message of condolence will cause all of us to consider preparing our loved one's to embrace good times and loving moments that will never seem to disappear...especially when you need a memory to comfort you at such a time.  May God bless you all to be in a cheerful mode as uncle Lonnie has completed his mission.  Remember.... his life had a purpose and God is the author and finisher of our faith.  He will be missed by his wife, children, close friends and loved one's so In closing, may Our Heavenly Father bless all who are in mourning, and may his presence envelope you with his love and peace.

I had the Pleasure to work with Lonnie at DPSS, in the Eighties, My first time in The County. Lonnie  welcomed me and left me with lots of good memories,laughter, knowledge. 

My memory of Lonnie is when we first met right out of high school in 1968; We started Working together at unattached men’s center. We started to develop a unbroken friendship. Throughout the years we shared countless memories that I would cherish. I’m going to miss my friend and my buddy. 

Uncle Lonnie,  I really appreciated having you in my life. You were truly and inspiration and an example of how a man is suppose to be. I will cherish our last talks. And yes I will continue to be your n_ _ _a, if I don’t get any bigger.  
I feel I had the opportunity to say everything I wanted to while you were here with us. So rest Uncle in peace. You will truly be missed. Love your Nephew Pierre
