five children (Dorothy, Speed, Janette and Linda) born to Denton Lawrence Long and Regina
Dorothy Guyer-Long. Marjorie grew up in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles. As a child
Marjorie was affectionately nick-named Miji . Her family continued to call her that for the
remainder of her life. At an early age Margie gained a passion for reading and read numerous

animals of all kinds, and at one point owned dogs, cats, tortoises, pigmy goats a horse,
chickens and ducks. In her later years she had several cats she loved deeply.

were born 4 beautiful children; Daniel, Denise Louise, Judith Marie, and Linda Claire.
Margie was a very loving mother who made sure that birthdays and holidays were
always special for her children. In the early years she stayed home to raise her children while
occasionally volunteering at the local library until going to work for the U.S Postal Service in
Gardena Ca in 1968. Although she worked long hours and commutes, she would still manage to
find time to wrap all the Christmas and birthday gifts and sew her girls new dresses for special
occasions. Margie remained working for the post office until she retired 35 years later. She
made life-long friends while working there. She considered them to be family and remained in
touch with many of them long after retirement. She would meet up with them from time to time to
catch up on what was happening in each other’s lives.
Margie was a proud life long member of Branch 1100 of the National Association of
Letter Carriers. After retirement, Margie sold her townhome in Long Beach, CA and bought a
house in Stagecoach Nevada to be closer to her older sister Dorothy.
Margie made a delicious pork roast and sauerkraut dish which is a family favorite. Her
homemade clam chowder couldn't be matched! And her candied yams were to die for.
Margie enjoyed traveling and loved nature. She would jump in the car (with a loaded
.357 on the seat next to her) and would sometimes drive 7plus hours to her destination.
She had a vast knowledge on a variety of subjects, especially when it came to animals.
Margie served as a guide on whale watching tours out of Redondo Beach, CA for several years.
Margie was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who made sure to
never forget a birthday. She leaves behind a host of friends and family.
