Albert Lawrence Howe, 92, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines with a private family interment in Cape Girardeau, MO at a later date. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with a rosary at 7 p.m.
A.L. was born on March 6, 1921 in Cape Girardeau, MO to James and Alberta Howe. On June 20, 1945 he married the love of his life and best-friend, Ann, who survives him.
He is the loving and devoted dad of Sally Howe, Patti (Robert) Polczynski, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Howe and Jennifer (Eric) Walters; proud grandpa of Jessica (Andy) Schalk, Chad (Mayo) Neville, Joshua (Whitney) Neville, Brett Polczynski, Jeffrey Howe II, Gabriella Howe, Gianna Howe and Janell Walters; and ecstatic great-grandpa of Nicole Schalk, Natalie Schalk and Sophia Dominguez. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Georgia Howe; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A.L. was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alberta; baby sister, Evelyn; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave (Gussie) Howe, Paul (Rosemary) Howe and Gene Howe; and best four legged friend, Alex.
A.L. was a proud Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps serving in WWII. He retired from Monarch Cement (Marquette) after 40 years of service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Service Organization (USO) or Disabled American Veterans. Semper fi!
