Audrey Joan Gibson, 92, died on December 4, 2023 in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11 at McLaren's Funeral Chapel with the visitation at 11 AM and a service starting at noon. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Audrey was born November 3, 1931, to Adolf and Ellen Johnson and graduated from North High School in 1949. She worked in public relations at the Iowa Development Commission at the legislature as an assistant to representatives and senators for 38 years, retiring in 2010. Audrey and her husband, Clint, owned several rental properties, and Clint had several business operations that Audrey was the bookkeeper for.
Audrey and her husband, Clint, were charter members of the Retarded Children’s Association (ARC) and she also volunteered for cerebral palsy. She was a secretary of the Advisory Committee at Smouse School for the physically handicapped and also served as the Area XI Disability Council Chairperson. She was a member of the Greater Des Moines Garden Club and Grand View Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, bridge, Domino’s, music, sewing, and decorating.
She is survived by her daughters, Denise (Richard) Allen and Lynnette Gibson; son, Dale Gibson; grandson, Peter Updegraff; great-grandson, Brayden Updegraff and Orion Updegraff; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friends, Pam (Dick) Such and Larry (Jeanne) Geisinger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint; brother, Dick (Doris); and parents, Adolf, and Ellen Johnson.
