Bob Benton, 82, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Bob was born in rural Polk County, grew up in Bondurant and graduated from Bondurant High School, served in the U.S. Army and resided in the Des Moines area most of his life. He retired from Continental Western Insurance Co. after 30 plus years as a claims adjuster.
Bob attended First Christian Church, coached Little League, was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Mitchellville, a 30 year member of Fairs & Squares Square Dance Club, and was very proud of his private pilot’s license. He loved woodworking, fishing, boating, barbequing, baseball and gardening.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughter, Bobbe Balducki (Terry Bendixen); son, Steven Benton; daughter, Cindy (Lyle) Petersen; step-son, Scott (Kelly) Davis and step-daughter, Lisa (Brian) Bakke; eight grandsons; nine granddaughters; four great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Edith Benton; three brothers, Donald, Dale and Delmar; grandson, Aaron Benton; granddaughter, Darcie Balducki; and great-granddaughter, Rylee Balducki.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 pm Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
