Carol J. Sweet

Carol J. Sweet went to her Lord on Monday, August 23, 2010 at her home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Carol was born January 5, 1943 in Des Moines and lived most of her life in West Des Moines. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and earned several degrees from Drake University: Bachelor of Art Education, Cum Laude, Bachelor of Science in Education, Cum Laude, Master of Science in Education, Master of Science in Education with emphasis in Special Education, and PhD. coursework. She was a retired teacher from the West Des Moines School District.

Carol was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, a world traveler, enjoyed being creative with arts and crafts, Christmas and holiday decorating, and was a loving grandparent.

Carol is survived by her husband, Manfred; four children, Heidi, Holly, Heather and Tim; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Nicholas; sister, Lynne Barton; and two nephews, Kelly and Kyle Barton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brad and Irma Wilson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Chapel with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
