Carolyn Jean (Allen) Mullenix, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, in Castle Rock, CO. She spent her final days surrounded by her children, grandchildren and the people who loved her most. A visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, with a time of sharing at 4 p.m. at McLaren’s. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Carolyn was born August 22, 1950 in Des Moines and raised on the south side of Des Moines, the daughter of Richard and Betty Allen. Carolyn graduated from Lincoln High School, where she made friendships and memories that stayed with her throughout her life. She spent over 25 years working for SVPA in West Des Moines, before retiring. She loved her job and was known for her dependability, hard-work and relationships she created.
Carolyn loved golfing. She would spend her Thursdays golfing with her friends and was very good. When she wasn’t golfing, she would usually be in her yard taking care of all her beautiful flowers. Carolyn took great pride in her flower gardens and loved her summer tomatoes. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed making memories together and cooking and baking for everyone. When Carolyn would visit Colorado, she always made a point of taking her family somewhere and making the most of their time together.
In the last year of her life, Carolyn lived in Castle Rock, Colorado with her daughter Laura, where she was able to spend precious time with all three of her children and all seven of her grandchildren. Those days were filled with laughter, visits, shared meals and everyday moments that she treasured. Her daily walks with her daughter, Sarah, especially their walks up to “the bench,” became a special place for them to spend time together.
Carolyn is survived by her children, Laura, Sarah and Michael Mullenix; seven grandchildren; and her sister Christine “Chrissy” Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Craig Allen and her sister, Susan Allen.
Memorial contributions can be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
