In his younger days, you would always find Cecil working in the yard and gardening. He enjoyed studying the ads, hunting for bargains, and shopping. Cecil was a collector of many things including Hot Wheels for the grandkid, turtles, and M&Ms characters.
Cecil kept jars filled with many of his favorite candies, ensuring no grandchild or adult left empty-handed. He didn’t enjoy meals from home but enjoyed many meals from Tasty Tacos, Fish N Chips, and China Chef. He was known for his stubbornness and his “spicy” attitude at the medical facilities.
He was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Jeanette Roberts.
He will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Nancy; children, Rob (Sharon) Johnston, Cindy (Steve) Wilson, and Shawna (Justin) Cochran; grandchildren- Nicole (Caleb) Priest, Rachel (Spencer) Zevenbergen, Jace, Isaiah, and Braxten Cochran; and great grandchildren Easton, Camden, and Coleson Priest, and Henry Zevenbergen.
When we look at the moon, we will always think of him.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at McLaren’s Resthaven Cemetery & Chapel in West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held in the chapel from 10-11:30 am with graveside services to follow.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Carlisle Fire and EMS who gave him many lifts.
