Dan was born on May 22, 1949, to Virgil and Janice (Juel) Hansen. Dan’s early small-town life was carefree, and he enjoyed many adventures with his siblings, Debbie and Mark, and Cousin Paul. The family moved to Des Moines in 1963, where Dan attended Roosevelt High School graduating with class of 1967. He was a proud lifelong member of the “All Center Bums”, a small group of degenerates!
Dan married and became the father of two children, Bryan and Danielle. They later divorced, but he stayed a constant in both of their lives. Dan excelled at softball in high school, a passion that continued throughout his life, and because of the activities around that sport he met his one true love, Carol Crow. In 1983, they began a loving partnership that would span decades. Together they had a son Alex. They worked in and built up the family business, Action Print, and helped to establish a printing legacy.
Dan was a member of the West Des Moines Lions Club, and numerous print related organizations. He was the President of the Craftsman’s Club of Des Moines and gave his time and considerable talent freely to the community in many additional ways. Through their work, Dan and Carol became an integral part of the printing industry and their community. He deeply appreciated opportunities to spend time with his family and his many buddies. This eventually included, most importantly for him, time with his beloved grandchildren. Dan’s contributions to community and relationships, and his unique sense of humor will be remembered and will remain his legacy.
Dan will be deeply missed by his wife of 43 years, Carol; his children, Danielle, and Alex; his grandchildren Deanna, Rielley, Jacen, Oliver, and Aurora; his sister Debbie; his sister-in-law Teri Hansen; extended family, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bryan Hansen, his brother Mark Hansen, and brother-in-law Dean Jacobsen.
