David passed away on December 2, 2022 surrounded by the loving presence of his wife, Linda, and their children. A wonderful Celebration of David’s life will be held early next June at McLaren’s Chapel at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warriors.
David, son of Wilson (Bud) and Frances Dinsdale, was born on October 2, 1942 in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended grade school in Buckingham and went to Traer High School. He graduated from Iowa State University. David served in the U.S. Army and worked in a 100-bed field hospital. He was a marketing representative for Standard Oil for several years. During the 1970s-1980s, David owned and operated Dave’s Amoco at 2nd and University in Des Moines. Later he started his own lawn care company, Natural Solutions. At the same time, David renovated some properties which he rented or sold over the years.
On December 17, 1987 David married Linda Nordgaard at the Botanical Center in Des Moines. They lived in Des Moines and raised four beautiful kids-Britt, Isaac, Signe, and Stephanie. David enjoyed sharing stories of his childhood. He was raised on a farm near Traer. As a very young boy, he helped his father with farm work. He had sweet memories, too, of playing with his many Dinsdale and Wolfgram cousins.
David was always very physically active. He had fun playing shortstop on the Traer High School Boys Baseball Team and the Traer Town Team. Later in Des Moines, David had fun as a little league baseball coach and a girls basketball coach, and also had much fun snow skiing and water skiing with the family. A real highlight for David was skydiving. Additional highlights for David were being a member of the Winterset Fly Club and a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). David was a proud member of The American Legion. He also enjoyed being active in church activities.
In December 2020, David and Linda moved to Dallas, Texas, to live closer to their kids and two darling grandkids, Renzo and Senna. For a while, they shared living with their daughter Signe and family. In August 2022, David and Linda moved only a short 20-minute drive from the family to The Orchards, a beautiful 55+ active senior living community.
David was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie, and his parents, Bud & Frances Dinsdale.
David is survived by his wife, Linda and their children Britt (Karin) Dinsdale of Lakewood, CO; Isaac (Megan) Nordgaard of Alexandria, VA; Signe (Jason) Smith and their children Renzo (8) and Senna (4) of Dallas, TX. David’s brother, Gary Dinsdale of Lucas, IA, and sister Dotta (Larry) Hassman of West Des Moines, IA.
