David Dale Grandfield, 66, of Des Moines, formally of Seattle, WA, passed away on January 12, 2026. A memorial service will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday January 18, 2026, at Valley United Methodist Church 4201 Ashworth Rd, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
David was born on July 18, 1959, in Des Moines to Dale & Faye Grandfield. He attended Valley High School and was on the swim team. He graduated in 1977 and went on to receive his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Northern Iowa in 1983. After college, he moved to Seattle, Washington, where he got a job at Boeing Aircraft and Zones International. He returned to Iowa in August of 2017.
David marched to his own beat and had a great sense of humor. He loved gardening, refurbishing furniture, and decorating for holidays, especially Halloween. He showed movies outside for the neighborhood. He also loved volleyball and working out.
He is survived by his mom, Faye Grandfield; sister, Charlotte L. Walsh (Torq); sister, Carol (Marty) Jones; nieces, Grace E. (Sklyer) Kvidera, and Hannah S. (Kenton) Plumlee; and Great Nephew, Jax H. Kvidera; cousin Julie Paulsen
David is preceded in death by his father, Dale, and his grandparents.
