David Stephen Wiles, 77, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024 with his loving family by his side. A memorial gathering will be held from 4-7 P.M. Monday, June 10, 2024 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel. A burial will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Once you have arrived at the cemetery, please make your way to the administration building to line your car up for a procession to the cemetery chapel.
David was born on April 18, 1947 in Iowa City, Iowa, and he was adopted by Russell and Dorothy Wiles. He attended Des Moines Technical High School, and he graduated in June of 1966. Immediately after, he left for Army basic training in Fort Bliss, Texas. From April of 1968 to March of 1969, he served his country in Vietnam. Shortly after returning from Vietnam, David married Karen Olsen, and they made their home in Clive, Iowa with their daughter, Steffanie.
He enjoyed building electronics such as a television, radio-controlled boats, planes, and helicopters. He liked kayaking, biking, and especially camping with friends and family.
David is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Steffanie (Chris) Jeffrey; grandsons, Dylan and Samson Jeffrey; brother, Jeff (Drenna) Wiles; and sister, Pam (Greg) Leo.
