Debra C. Sandquist

With deep love and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Debbie Sandquist, who passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026 at the age of 63, surrounded by the love of her family. A visitation will be held on July 25, 2026 from 1 to 3 p.m. at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at McLaren’s.

Born on September 9, 1962 in Des Moines, IA Debbie lived a life defined by love, strength, compassion, and devotion to those she cherished. She had a kind heart, a generous spirit, and a gift for making others feel welcome. Her greatest joy was her family, and she created a lifetime of memories that will be treasured forever. One of her personal favorite memories was being a part of the presidential campaign in 2008 for Barak Obama.

Throughout her life, Debbie dedicated herself to serving others with compassion, kindness, and unwavering faith. She found her calling as a Peer Support Advocate at Broadlawns Medical Center, where she used her own life experiences to encourage, support, and uplift those facing difficult times. Her empathy, understanding, and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on countless lives.

A woman of faith, Debbie carried her love for God with her throughout her life. Her faith guided the way she loved, served, and cared for those around her. She generously gave her time through volunteer work, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever she was needed. She found joy in life's simple blessings. She loved tending to her garden, preserving the fruits of her labor through canning, preparing home-cooked meals for family and friends, and expressing her creativity through drawing. Whether nurturing plants, creating something with her hands, or offering comfort through a warm meal and kind words, she poured love into everything she did.

Debbie is survived by her children, Jerehmy (Jessica) and Jennifer (Nate); grandchildren, Serenitey, Logan, Skyler, Trista, Taylor, and Samantha; siblings, Carol and David; and many other loved ones whom she shared a special bond with as well as her fur baby, Macy. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, George Jr. and Marge Catanzano as well as her brother George Catanzano III.

Those who knew Debbie will remember her for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, resilience, faith, generosity, love of gardening, cooking, music, or other qualities that made her unique. Her love was constant, her wisdom enduring, and her presence brought comfort to everyone around her. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that her love will continue to guide us. Her legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa if desired.
