Dixie Lee Benton

She was born on March 13, 1937, to parents Avery G. Hutchison and Daisy I. (Brown) Murphy.

Dixie grew up in Des Moines, graduating from North High School in 1955. She spent the majority of her working career at Continental Western Insurance Company. After taking an early retirement, she spent her time caring for her mother, loving on her grandchildren, helping friends, and volunteering in multiple ways.

Later in life Dixie moved into assisted living, and then memory care. She never lost her desire to help others, her feisty and fiery spirit, or her sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by many.

Dixie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Benton, her father, mother, step-father, Earl H. Murphy, step-son, Steven Benton, three grandchildren and a grandson-in-law. She leaves to carry on her memory her children Scott Davis and Lisa (Brian) Bakke, her step-daughters, Bobbe Balducki and Cindy (Lyle) Petersen, her grandchildren Ron (Sue) Balducki, Adam (Sherrie) Casady, Brandi (Jake) Conger, Scott (Sheena) Davis, Jr., Valerie Mandosia, Nycole (Dustin) Mitchell, Brandon Martin, Jody (Steve) Olson, Natasha (Gavin) Otto, and Clearisa Davis, as well as 18 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 11:00am at New Beginnings Christian Church, located at 8631Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA. A lunch will follow. At 1:30pm, a committal service for Dixie’s family will be held at Resthaven Cemetery, located at 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Dixie’s memory be sent to the Food Bank of Iowa.
