Dorothy (Miner) Crase, 82, passed away June 25, 2015 at Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Urbandale, IA. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at West Des Moines Christian Church with a burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines.
Dorothy was born January 4, 1933 to Ivan and Mary Miner. She graduated from Pleasantville High School and went on to finish her B.A. in education from Drake University in 1954. She was united in marriage to Rev. Lewis E. Crase on June 25, 1954. As an educator, Dorothy proudly dedicated herself to her 8th grade English students for the Cedar Falls and West Des Moines School Districts for over 40 years. Dorothy faithfully served alongside her husband at the Cedar Falls Christian Church and the Covenant Christian Church in Urbandale.
Dorothy was dedicated to her faith, husband, children, grandchildren, friends and students throughout her life. Her greatest joy was her family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Kirk) Schmaltz of Ames, IA and Bronna Crase of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Paul Clark (Chad Davis), Brooke (Soloman) Terry, Stephanie Schmaltz and Katie Schmaltz (Jonathan Ifergan); sister-in-law Mary Lou Low and her husband Stan of Tucson, AZ; six nieces and nephews; and one great niece. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
