Dorothy Inez Etchen, 86, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2016, after a brief hospital stay. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, at First Christian Church, 2500 University Avenue, Des Moines with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Dorothy was born August 11, 1929, in Diagonal, IA to Crystal and B.W. Brown. She met Winton Etchen at a dance at then Iowa State College, and they married on October 1, 1950. She and Winton raised their five children in West Des Moines and moved to the Granger orchard in 2001. Much of her adult life she and her family proudly owned and operated Iowa Orchard. Dorothy’s family best remembers her love of sewing, her faith in God, and her unfailing ability to beat them all at Bridge.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Winton Etchen; five children, Denise Etchen, Mark (Becky) Etchen, Kyla (David) Rodgers, Michelle (Tim) Landry and Bryan (Anastasiia) Etchen; and four grandchildren, Bryce Rodgers, Brynja (Shea) Thompson, Sabrina Rodgers and Grace Landry. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Claire Brown.
