Dorothy Farwell, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dorothy was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Gordon and Mary Edmondson. She married Carl Farwell from Panora, Iowa in 1945 and lived most of her life in West Des Moines. She retired from Northwestern Bell Telephone after 30 years as a long distance operator. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, loved to travel, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Jeannie (Randy) Carpenter of Thief River Falls, MN; three sons, Rick (Nancy) Farwell, William B. Farwell and Michael (Joni) Farwell, all of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanne Morgan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Awareness.
