Dorothy "Dotty" Anne Solliday

I’ve been in some interesting mansions, but only as a tourist. I used to enjoy stair-climbing in impressive seaside lighthouses, but there are no words to describe the joy of moving into my new perfect eternal home which the lord has provided for me (by his sovereign and loving hand). I look forward to my friends and family being my close neighbors when it’s time for them to “relocate” one day.

My name is Dorothy (Dotty) Donahue Solliday. I moved into my forever mansion on February 14, 2018 at the age of 79. Waiting there for me were my parents, George and Irene Donahue, and others of the Donahue family, the King family (my grandparents, etc.) and the Solliday family (known for their exuberant and faithful attendance at many family reunions). Their future gatherings will all be held at the “mansion” as time moves on.

To those I have loved throughout my earthly journey and have left behind, I will be with you in spirit. To my wonderful husband, Harry Solliday, I love you. To my two children: daughter, Melinda Louscher (Scott Louscher) and son, Andrew Solliday; I love you too. To my handsome grandsons, Landon, Carson, Jackson, and Kaedon Louscher, I’ll always be looking out for you plus cheering you on in your walk with our Lord and Savior.

To the Des Moines School Nurses, parents, students, and staff of Ruby Van Meter School with whom I worked for twenty-five years, the pleasure was all mine. That would be true for the staff and fellow docents at the Des Moines Art Center where I volunteered after retirement. Thank you all for sharing your love of art with me. The only master-pieces I have appreciated more have been God-made sunsets and captivating coast lines – He created them all.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McLarens Chapel (801 19th St., West Des Moines, Iowa 50265. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Ashworth Road Baptist Church (5300 Ashworth Rd., West Des Moines, Iowa 50266) with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
