

Doug was born February 5, 1948 in Ames, Iowa to Arthur John “Jack” and Helen Boyt. The family made their home in Des Moines where Doug graduated from North High School in 1966 and is a 2024 Inductee into the North High School Hall of Fame. Doug also attended Iowa State University and Drake University. A Vietnam Veteran, Doug served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1970. Doug and Cassie (Andersen) Boyt were married in January of 1972 and had 3 sons, Christopher, Michael and Matthew.
Doug founded John Boyt Industrial Sewing in 1973, recently celebrating 50 years in business. His passion for sailing, cooking, golf, wine and most recently genealogy filled his free-time and family holidays with Doug and Cassie have created lifelong memories for all.
Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cassie; sons Michael (Richardson, Texas) and Matthew, (Clive, Iowa); stepmother Mable (Titus) Boyt (Bowling Green, Missouri); siblings Steven (Kris) Boyt (Des Moines, Iowa), Mary Nedoba (Cedar Falls, Iowa), Maggie Laughead (Des Moines, Iowa), and Ann (Rick) Dobrowski (Buffalo Grove, Illinois); grandchildren, Berkley, Sage and Nora Boyt; nieces and nephews Amanda (Dave) Wicker, Heather Boyt, Molly (Palmer) Schulz, Andy (Emilee) Nedoba, Ian (Cameron) Van Kooten Laughead, Sean Laughead, Killian Laughead, Katarina (Austin) Marchand, Hannah Dobrowski, and Lilianna
Dobrowski. Doug was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Boyt and his parents, Jack and Helen Boyt.
Visitation will be held at McLaren’s Funeral Home in West Des Moines, IA on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 from 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held the next day at 10:30 am at McLaren's followed by a 12:30 pm burial at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Drive, Adel, IA 50003.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tunnel 2 Towers or Wounded Warriors.
