Douglas Wayne Jackson, 67, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. Doug was born in Corning, Iowa on February 22, 1952, son of Bradford and Ruth (Fils) Jackson. He lived in Corning until he was 7 when he moved with his parents to the family farm outside of Creston, Iowa. He attended Creston High School where he graduated in 1970. Growing up he spent majority of the his working on the farm with his dad, raising and showing cattle at the fair with 4H, reading, studying, narrating school plays and spending quality time with his cousins.
After high school, he headed off to Drake University where he received his BSBA with a major in Finance in 1974 and his MBA in 1975. During his time at Drake, he also joined the Air National Guard.
On July 18, 1987 he married Carol Behnke, the love of his life. Together in 1991 they were blessed with their daughter Meredith. Doug enjoyed spending quality time with his loving family, whether it was at home relaxing, going out to his favorite restaurant or traveling the world. Doug, Carol and Meredith traveled extensively together through the years across the U.S. and in Europe and spent a lot of quality time at the house Doug designed and landscaped in Arizona. Doug shared his love of travel, history and good food to his wife and daughter and loved spoiling them.
Doug achieved a world-renowned career as a Commodity Broker, a career he knew he was destined for since he was a little boy. He worked at Intl FCStone for over 30 years, rising to become the Vice President of the international division. In fact, Doug initiated the international division of Intl FCStone (formerly FCC) back in the early 80’s. He established a large international presence in the commodity world, sharing his knowledge about grain markets across the U.S. and abroad in London, Dublin, and other cities in China, Japan, Switzerland and Mexico. Doug was a titan in his industry and well respected worldwide for his insightful perspectives and analysis in his daily wires and on the “Market to Market” TV program on IPTV. He had a wonderful career and often summed it up, saying: “I started with the Russian grain robbery of the 80’s and ended in the era of electronic trading”.
When he wasn’t busy spending time with his favorite girls or studying the markets, he enjoyed working in his yard. He spent many summers planting trees, flowers, plants, making his lawn the best in the neighborhood. He also made sure the local squirrels, birds and other creatures had plenty of food to eat in the backyard. Doug spent many years collecting Britians and Toy Soldiers. For years, he has displayed many battles of many wars throughout the centuries in his den and other rooms of the house. One of Doug’s favorite pastimes was sitting on the deck and reading history books or the WSJ and NYT. In fact for his twelfth birthday he requested a subscription to the WSJ and has read it ever since.
Surviving are his mom, Ruth Jackson formerly of Creston, Iowa, wife, Carol Behnke Jackson of Des Moines, Iowa and daughter, Meredith Jackson of Denver, Colorado. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Bradford Jackson.
Doug was a loving and devoted husband and father. He always will be remembered for his quick wit, loving heart, spectacular knowledge of history and world events, classy taste and his strong but quiet faith.
