He was born on June 6, 1925 in Anita, Iowa and then graduated from Anita High School in 1942. Pete served in the US Army during World War II and was a Military Policeman, stationed in Washington D.C and guarded President Truman.
He worked at and managed and then owned Advertiser’s Duplicating Service in Clive for 37 years.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, of 68 years, Thelma and his two brothers Don and Julius. He is survived by his son Daryl “Pete” (Sue) of Clive and daughter Patty of Tampa, Florida, three grandchildren John (Kim) of Trinity, Florida, Carrie of Waukee, and Christy Dilks (Kyle) of Altoona and two great grandchildren Ella and Owen Dilks.
Pete was the hardest working, kindest man you would ever meet and will be truly missed. He was our baseball coach, mentor, role model, handyman, golfing partner, ping-pong competitor, softball team mate, and hero.
He was a member of Waukee Methodist Church, Gnemeth Masonic Lodge and ZA-Ga-Zig Shrine. He loved his Chicago Cubs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Drake Bulldogs.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League. Funeral services will be at 1:00p.m. on June 21st at McLarens Chapel in West Des Moines with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
