Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Coil died October 9, 2017 at Windhaven Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at West Des Moines Christian Church with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Libby was born in Knox City, MO November 3, 1922, the daughter of Waldorf L. and Thelma (Clauson) Eyman. She graduated Salutatorian of her high school class and went on to Stephens College for Women before finishing her BA degree in Music at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. She first went to Washington D.C. to work before taking a teaching position in Big Springs, Missouri. She subsequently met her husband, James “Jim” Coil, a recently released Prisoner of War (Germany World War II) at a church dinner in his honor. They were married September 2, 1946. Jim and Libby moved to Des Moines, Iowa to start their careers, eventually settling in West Des Moines with their two children, Sharon and David.
Libby taught music and 4th grade in the West Des Moines school system for many years. She loved music and sang in the choir of West Des Moines Christian Church as well as leading their bell choir for several years. She was a devoted member of two music clubs: Clef and Drama and Treble Clef.
Libby was a voracious reader and belonged to several book clubs. She also loved to cook and entertain friends and family, especially at holiday gatherings.
She is predeceased by her parents; husband, James Coil; and a brother, Wally Eyman. Libby is survived by her children, Sharon (Bill) Franklin and David (Joyce) Coil; brother, Bill (Rosalyn) Eyman; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Des Moines Christian Church, Unity Point Hospice-Waterloo or Western Home Communities Foundation.
